Akram Reslan Competition for Caricature

The competition aims to encourage youth and talented individuals in drawing to use humor and satire to depict democratic principles and challenges. The competition includes awarding prizes to the top 10 participants, as well as showcasing distinguished drawings at Wathiqoon Program events and discussing their themes with the audience.

  • The participant must be of Syrian nationality.
  • Age category: between 18-40 years.
  • Target audience: Syrians inside Syria or in countries of asylum.
  • Only one caricature drawing can be submitted per participant.
  • The drawing must be exclusively the work of the participant, and he/she must hold the sole rights to it.
  • The drawing must not be used in other competitions or published in any media or social media platforms.
  • The drawing should depict real events and themes reflecting human experiences, and mirror the Syrian political and social reality.
  • The drawing should highlight aspects related to human rights, promote a culture of diversity and freedom of choice, the right to participate, or depict political and democratic principles and challenges.
  • The drawings should embody higher human values that encourage or advocate for these principles.
  • The drawings must not contain any clear or hidden offense to human, religious, or societal values.
  • Participation in more than one competition within announced “Wathiqoon competitions” is allowed, but winning more than one is not permitted.
  • The ability to present a creative idea or develop a known idea in a new and innovative way.
  • The caricature clearly conveys its message or idea, with attention to visual expression and balance between the different elements in the drawing.
  • Quality of the drawing and artistic details, including good use of lines, colors, shading, and lighting.
  • The caricature’s ability to elicit reactions, whether through humor or satirical expression.
  • The caricature is easy to understand and read, clearly conveying its message without the need for additional explanation.
  • Balance of different elements in the caricature such as text, images, lines, and colors, and their harmony with the main idea.
  • The caricature’s ability to critique or express ideas constructively and beneficially, in line with the competition’s objective.
  • The first-place winner receives a monetary prize of $200.
  • The second-place winner receives a monetary prize of $150.
  • The third-place winner receives a monetary prize of $100.
  • Winners from fourth to tenth place receive a monetary prize of $50.
  • The winning drawings will be published on Wathiqoon Program’s online platforms and displayed at the Wathiqoon Forum.
  • Winners retain the ownership rights to their works after they are published on the program’s platforms.
  • Drawings must be submitted in high resolution, no less than 3480×2160 pixels.
  • A brief description of the drawing must be attached, in which the participant explains the vision and idea behind it.
  • The information provided in the form must be accurate and truthful.
  • If the submitted drawing wins, the participant will be required to provide additional personal documents later and attend the Confident Forum.
  • The submission period ends on 2024-04-30.
  • The competition results will be announced on 2024-05-15 via the Confident Program platforms and will be sent via email to the winners only.
